Day 9: Boston Bound
Boston, MA

Boston, MA

We woke up to a foggy start to our morning in Portland, but it didn’t slow us down. We were determined to make a quick stop back at Two Fat Cats bakery to take some sweets to go before grabbing break fast at The Front Room. What a fabulous start to our day…Bryan enjoyed a classic eggs/bacon/potatoes plate while I gave their vegetable hash (zucchini, onions, potatoes, corn, okra, etc.) and poached egg special a try. Both our meals were served with toast, so we had to give their homemade mixed berry bread a try…wow! It was mouthwatering and tasted more like a cookie or shortbread to us than toast/bread. Thanks again for another killer suggestion, Tessa! Following breakfast, we enjoyed our last hour in Portland with a scenic walk through town. We spotted a few murals, the observation tower, and a few additional shops before returning to our hotel for check out and a quick ride to the transportation station to catch our bus back to Boston (we liked our train ride to Portland, but the bus provided a few additional time options for our return trip giving us some downtime in Portland this AM). When we arrived to Boston (about a 2 HR bus ride), we had the chance to meet up with my cousin Michelle and her family (Patrick, Ellie & Nolan) for the afternoon. Our hotel greeted the kids with a Popsicle to cool off with today’s extreme heat. After some catching up in the lobby, we casually walked through the area surrounding the Quincy market, enjoyed some laughs and waves on the colorful carousel, and then cooled off in the city’s splash pad near the aquarium, After a fun family day we enjoyed dinner together and said our goodbyes. Bryan and I took in more of the city before calling it a night…we roamed the nearby streets and found the Old State House/site of the Boston Massacre (where John Adams, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other patriots debated the future of American self-government and set in motion the American Revolution), spotted the filming of a German movie, explored a Dominican festival with live band, and enjoyed the scents and unique finds at the Boston Public Market (including the cool donut making machine we saw at the apple market stand)! We certainly have had our fair share of food, fun, and fabulous sites over this past week! Sad it’s come to an end, but time to get back to reality as we return home tomorrow (funny how the idea of getting back to your own bed sounds/feels incredible). Thanks for showing us a good time, Canada & the Northeast! Until next time…
