While an extra quick visit, we had fun exploring Pittsburgh as Dad prepared to run the 2019 Pittsburgh Half Marathon!

We drove to PA on Saturday morning, making our first stop the Race Expo (@ the David L. Lawrence Convention Center) and then strolled through downtown for a bit before grabbing lunch (tacos a day early to dodge the crowds) at Condado Tacos. Market Square was also a pretty cool area…we’ll have to save room on our next visit here for a Primanti Bros. sandwich. I was also mesmerized by the “glass castle” building (PPG Place) and will definitely have to return to catch a game at PNC Park!

Taking in the river front with the lineup of bridges was quite the sight! From downtown, we enjoyed a quick visit to Allegheny Center and stopped by a pretty unique place, Randyland. An art museum wildly regarded as one of America’s most colorful public art landmarks – certainly an eccentric collection!

We enjoyed a low key evening throughout Station Square, and even got to catch the Kentucky Derby [what an unexpected end for the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports,” resulting in the disqualification of Maximum Security, the first horse to cross the finish line, and a long shot (Country House) being cleared the winner. Can’t wait to see this event in person one day!] before calling it a night for Marathon morning. We stayed at a cool boutique hotel, The Distrikt Hotel, right between the race start/finish areas. I loved the wall of plants and was eagerly exploring the line up of bikes (wheels) on display in the lobby.

While not the best spectating weather (light rain), I had a blast waving, pointing and clapping for all the runners – especially for my Dad & Aunt! Luckily the rain stayed mild to make if comfortable/a little less humid run weather.

We had a nice time unwinding at the finishing location/Park where we were lucky to enjoy some Eat’n Park cookies [thanks for getting me introduced, Mom & Dad]! We were all famished post race, and got to end the weekend on a high note with a fabulous breakfast buffet at Braddock’s Rebellion before our journeys home – definitely would revisit!
